WVSU Takes Home Mountain East Conference Tournament Title

CHARLESTON, W.Va.
-- West Virginia State capped off a perfect fall campaign with a 5-1 win over second-seeded West Liberty on Saturday morning at Schoenbaum Courts.

The Yellow Jackets, which completed MEC regular season play with a 7-0 record, dropped only a match in doubles en route to the conference tournament title. 

WVSU led 2-1 after doubles with Andreea Slusarciuc and Brittany Franco coming away with a narrow 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles, and another win at No. 2. West Liberty's doubles combination of Emily Dawson and Andrea Puga gave the 'Toppers a victory going into singles.

After tough first set wins, Franco and Cora Berna breezed through their second sets to win their matches. The deciding match came at No. 6 singles with Nadia Grlj defeated Alex Barr, 6-0, 7-6 (5).
