PIPESTEM, W.Va. -- West Virginia Wesleyan placed six runners in the top 10 on its way to winning the 2014 Mountain East Conference Women's Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Pipestem State Park.
The Bobcats successfully defended their 2013 title by scoring 24 points, with Wheeling Jesuit coming in second place with 39 points. Charleston was third (112), followed by West Liberty (118), Notre Dame (161), Fairmont State (165) and Urbana (173).
Wheeling Jesuit freshman Kelsey Chambers won 6,000-meter race with a time of 23:05 to claim both MEC Runner and Freshman of the Year honors.
WVWC had six runners earn first team All-MEC honors by virtue of their finish in the top 10 with Ali Cunningham in second place, followed by Rachel Pinto (fourth), Sydney Pineault (fifth), Loren McDaniel (sixth), Kaylee Williams (seventh) and Baylee Summers (10th). Bobcat head coach Jesse Skiles was named Mountain East Conference Coach of the Year for the second-consecutive season.
WJU's Kaitlin Workman (third) and Jenna Furr (ninth) also earned first team honors. UC's Kourtney Willey earne da a spot on the All-MEC first team by finishing eighth.
