BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Concord placed its top five runners in the top 15 to win the 2015 Mountain East Conference Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex.
Concord finished with 39 points to win its first MEC men's cross country title. West Virginia Wesleyan was second with 60 points, followed by Charleston (80), and Wheeling Jesuit and UVa-Wise tied for fourth (111).
The Mountain Lions were led by the Steven Starliper, who finished runner-up for the second-straight year, and Jason Weitzel, who finished third and was named the MEC Freshman of the Year. Justin Snyder also earned first team All-MEC honors by finishing sixth, and Michael Ruhnke and Cimarron NIcely earned second team honors fininishing 13th and 15th, respectively.
Wheeling Jesuit's Albert Schrimp won the 8,000-meter race with a time of 27:49 and was named MEC Runner of the Year. UVa-Wise's Shaquon Wilkins (5th) and William Young (9th) earned first team All-MEC honors, along with Charleston's Kevin Charette (8th) and Jake Casto (10th), West Virginia Wesleyan's Matt Dearth (4th) and Notre Dame's Duwon Terrell (7th).
Concord head coach Mike Cox was named the MEC Coach of the Year after directing the MEC Championship.
