BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- West Virginia Wesleyan placed all five scoring runners in the top 10 to win its third-straight Mountain East Conference Women's Cross Country championship on Saturday morning at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex.
WVWC finished with 37 points, ahead of Wheeling Jesuit in second with 47 and Concord in third with 64. Fairmont State was fourth (160), and Charleston (165) and Urbana (170) rounded out the top six.
Notre Dame's Nicole Burlinson used a surge midway through the 6,000-meter course to claim the individual championship with a time of 23:53. Wheeling Jesuit's Kelsey Chambers was runner-up with a time of 24:22. WVWC's contingent had was led by Sydney Pineault (third), followed by Brianna Waybright (7th), Baylee Summers (8th), Zoey Vilasuso (9th) and Joie Johnston (10th). Wheeling Jesuit's Kaitlyn Workman (4th) and Fallon Doyle (5th) also posted top 10 finishes and earned first team All-MEC honors, as did Concord's Vivian Ruiz (6th).
At the conclusion of the race, Burlinson was named the MEC Runner of the Year, Doyle was the MEC Freshman of the Year, and WVWC head coach Jesse Skiles was tabbed as the league's Coach of the Year.
