MEC Announces Men's Soccer Awards

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- University of Charleston teammates Will Roberts (Offensive Player of the Year) and Conor Branson (Defensive Player of the Year) earned the top two individual honors in the Mountain East Conference, the league announced today. In addition, Notre Dame College's Alexis Le Ho was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year, and UC head coach Chris Grassie was named the league's Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden Eagles to a second-straight league title.

Roberts, a sophomore from Denbigh, Wales, leads Charleston with 17 goals and four assists on the year. Last year's MEC Freshman of the Year is second in the league in goals and points (21), and tied for fifth in assists. SIx of Roberts' 17 goals this season were game-winners.

Branson, a senior from Ponterfract, England, is the MEC Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season. He helped direct a defense to a league-best 11 shutouts from his spot in the midfield, and also scored four goals and four assists.

A freshman from Pelmet, France, Le Ho earned Freshman of the Year honors after playing in 15 games and making 14 starts in the midfield for the Falcons. The two-way player scored two goals and helped NDC post eight shutouts on the season.

Grassie repeated as the MEC Coach of the Year after helping UC finish atop the conference table for a second-straight season. The Golden Eagles were ranked in the top five for most of the season, including a stint at the No. 1 spot, and finished the regular season with a 15-2 overall record and a 10-2 mark in conference play.

In addition to the individual honors, the league also announced the All-MEC teams. Charleston led the way with five first team selections, followed by runner-up Urbana's four. Notre Dame placed three players on the first team and West Virginia Wesleyan had one.

The All-MEC teams are selected by a vote of the league's coaches.
