CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Top-seeded West Liberty and second-seeded West Virginia Wesleyan each posted victories in the MEC Tournamnet Semifinals and will meet on Sunday for the championship. The Hilltoppers swept past Concord, 5-0, while the Bobcats got past Charleston, 5-3.
WLU opened the day with convincing wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, and the partnership of Matt Tully and Pable Cimorra's 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles gave the 'Toppers the full three points. West Liberty's Santiago Gutierrez notched a win at No. 2 singles and the Mountain Lions were forced to retire at No. 3 singles clinching the win for WLU.
In the second semifinal, UC won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to forge a 2-1 lead heading into the singles. The Bobcats rallied, though, as MEC Player of the Year Joel Izquierdo and Jacobo Rendon won in three sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. The Golden Eagles won at No. 3 singles, but WVWC closed out the match as Ranon Rodriguez and Aitor Reparaz won at No. 4 and No. 5.
