BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston trio of Ida Garberg, Marlee Coleman and Cassandra Forster, along with Notre Dame coach Mike Shiels, earned top honors from the Mountain East Conference as the league announced its annual awards and all-conference teams.

Garberg, a sophomore from Gjoevik, Norway, was tabbed as the league's Offensive Player of the Year for her role in orchestrating one of the top scoring offenses in the league. Garberg had three goals and five assists on the year for 11 points as a midfielder for the Golden Eagles.

Coleman, a sophomore from Manchester, Conn., was named the MEC's Defensive Player of the Year. The defensive midfielder helped stymie the opposition's attack and helped the Golden Eagles to 11 shutouts on the year. She was also a key link in getting UC's ability to build from the back and link with the attack.

Forster, a native of Vaxholm, Sweden, earned MEC Freshman of the Year honors. She played in all 18 games and made 16 starts in the midfield while talling one goal and three assists on the year. 

Shiels earns MEC Coach of the Year accolades for the second time in four seasons. Shiels directed the Falcons to the MEC regular season championship with a record of 13-1-2. He also helped NDC to its first national ranking in program history and has his team regionally ranked. 

In addition to the individual honors, the league also announced the All-MEC teams. Charleston had five first team all-conference players and regular season champion Notre Dame had four first team selections. West Liberty had three first team honorees and West Virginia Wesleyan had one first team pick.  

The All-MEC teams are selected by a vote of the league's coaches.
