WJU Wins MEC Tournament Title

-- Wheeling Jesuit won its fourth-straight Mountain East Conference Volleyball Tournament title defeating Fairmont State, 3-0, on Saturday night at the McDonough Center.

The Cardinals (38-2) surged ahead in the first set and won 25-19. The Falcons then pushed back in the second set and had the match tied 18-18, but WJU managed the next three points to pull ahead for good and closed out the set 25-20. Wheeling Jesuit carried that momentum into the third set and won handily, 25-10, to claim the title.

WJU had 15 kills from Bre Kramer, who hit .520 and also had nine digs. Haley Kindall had 11 kills and was in on five blocks. Setter Andrea Thobe helped WJU hit .438 (just five errors in the match) in the match and finished with 42 assists. Kayce Krucki had game-high 14 digs.

Mackenzie Harrison finished the tournament with another solid performance for the Falcons with 15 kills and 10 digs. Breanna Blot added 12 kills for FSU (21-13). Jessica Furda had 36 assists on the night.

Wheeling Jesuit earned the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. Fairmont State, which was seventh in the regional rankings, will learn of its postseason fate during the selection show on Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
