#9 Glenville State 89, #8 Shepherd 80 | Final Stats
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Sedric Nady scored an MEC-record 41 points to lead No. 9 Glenville State to an 89-80 win over No. 8 Shepherd on Tuesday night at the Butcher Center.
The Pioneers advance to take on top-seeded West Liberty on Friday night at 6 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center. GSC knocked off West Liberty last year in the tournament's semifinals.
Nady was 12-of-24 from the field and knocked down seven three-pointers to lead Glenville State. Brett Morris scored 18 points and Brien Winston added 10. Glenville State managed to make 14 three-pointers in the game compared to eight for Shepherd.
Steffen Davis led Shepherd with 22 points in the losing effort. Ryan McTavish tossed in 15, while Naim Muhammad and Winston Burgess each contributed 13 points.
#5 Charleston 76, Urbana 66 | Final Stats
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Fifth-seeded Charleston held off pesky 12th-seeded Urbana, 76-66, on Tuesday night in the first round of the MEC Tournament.
The Golden Eagles advance to take on Concord on Friday night at 8:15 p.m. The two teams split their regular season series.
UC shot 48 percent from the field and out-rebounded Urbana by 13 in the victory. Justin Coleman had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Tino diTrapano had 16 points and seven rebounds. Aleksander Kesic and Jaylen Hinton each contributed 11.
Carlas Jackson led all scorers with 31 points for Urbana, including seven three-pointers on the night. Dimitri Abner added 17 and Jahmere Howze scored 11.
#6 Notre Dame 102, #11 UVa-Wise 84 | Final Stats
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Tyree Gaiter scored 32 and teammate Will Vorhees added 31 as Notre Dame College powered past UVa-Wise, 102-84, on Tuesday night at Murphy Gymnasium in the first round of the MEC Tournament.
The Falcons shot a scorching 56 percent from the field in the win and dominate the glass, 40-23. In addition to Gaiter and Vorhees, NDC got 15 points from Kyauta Taylor and 11 more from Ryan Hickoff. Notre Dame will now take on Fairmont State in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon at 2:15 p.m.
Matt Day went for 29 points, while Phillip Owens turned in 27 more for UVa-Wise. Dimitri Sousa scored 20 points in the losing effort.
#7 West Virginia Wesleyan 70, #10 West Virginia State 54 | Final Stats
BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Tanner McGrew had 31 points and 13 rebounds as West Virginia Wesleyan handled West Virginia State, 70-54, in the first round of the MEC Tournament at the Rockefeller Center.
The Bobcats advance to take on Wheeling Jesuit in the quarterfinals on Friday at noon.
Soren Dossing added 12 more points for WVWC, while Garrett Grantham chipped in 11.
Tyrie Elliott had 14 points for WVSU. Brent Bauer and Terrance Jenkins each had 12, and Markee Mazyck added 11.
