CANTON, Ohio -- Fairmont State's Courtney Deem and Marlena Dudek earned individual championships to highlight the third day of action from the second day of the 2018 Great Midwest Athletic Conference/Mountain East Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.
Deem won her third title at this week's championship winning the 500 free with a time of 5:03.53, nearly three seconds clear of an NCAA 'B' cut time.
Dudek came into the final seeded fourth, stormed to the front in the final 50 yards to win the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.75, which was an NCAA 'B' cut time. Her teammate Emily Gersper took fifth in the same event, and FSU's Francine Meyer took fifth in the 100 backstroke to add points for the Falcons.
Kay Lange was the only other swimmer from the MEC to finish in the top eight on Friday as she took seventh in the 500 free.
Fairmont State's women sit in fourth with 595.5 points, ahead of West Virginia Wesleyan in fifth with 572 points.
West Virginia Wesleyan's men scored several top eight finishes on Friday night, led by runner-up finishes from Arthur Assfeld in the 100 backstroke (52.28) and Dominik Schopper in the 100 breaststroke (58.07). Julian Morassi took third in the 500 free (4:41.96) and added a fourth-place finish in the 200 fly (1:55.44) for the Bobcats.
Fairmont State's Arthur Brillhante took fourth in the 100 back (53.83), and teammate Shawn Gee was fifth (54.06).
Urbana's Dakota Lewis-Griggs scored points for the Blue Knights taking seventh in the 100 backstroke (54.55).
WVWC is in third place on the men's side with 853 points, followed by Fairmont State in fifth with 619 points.
