West Virginia Wesleyan's Naomi Underwood took the Mountain East Conference by storm in 2013 earning both Freshman of the Year and Runner of the Year honors. She won the individual MEC title last year by nine seconds over a pair of Bobcat teammates and helped the Bobcats to the inaugural team conference championship.
A native of Owings, Md., Underwood showed her middle distance speed in track with best times of 59.47 in the 400 meters and 2:14.46 in the 800 meters. She also posted a runner-up finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the MEC Track and Field Championships with a time of 11:16.23.
WVWC will open the 2014 season on Friday, Sept. 5, at an invitational at Ohio University.
